2024 Quilt Auction

Again this year quilts will be for sale both live at the fairgrounds and live online at an internet-based auction website. Closer to the sale the link to bid will be posted. In the meantime, follow the Relief Sale on Facebook to see quilts that have been donated (you can also see the feed on the side of this webpage).

Donating an item to the 2024 Relief Sale Quilt Auction.

Thank you for considering a donation to the 2024 Relief Sale Quilt Auction. We value the time and resources that you’ve put into the item(s) you are donating and are sincerely grateful for your contribution.

Take care when applying your binding to your quilt or comforter. Make sure there are no tucks or puckers and that the binding is put on straight and square. A reminder: quilts and comforters will not be accepted for auction if the binding is pulled around from the back.

Please inspect your items carefully, and repair or clean areas that need attention. Since we know that hand work is valued, to keep up the high quality of our offerings to buyers, we request that any pre-printed small quilt be hand-quilted or any machine-quilted small item be pieced, appliquéd, or hand embroidered. Pre-printed, machine-quilted wall hangings will be sold in a cash and carry area. If your donation is used, it must be clean and look like new.

Once an item is donated to the Sale, the committee will have the discretion about where the donated item will be sold so that it makes the most money for MCC.

TO DONATE:

FIRST, register your item:

  1. Fill out a registration form (please complete ALL sections)

Note: Unique names for your item help to sell it at the sale. Use a name that describes your item rather than just using the pattern name. For example: “Flower Boxes in My Window” is much more descriptive than “Nine-Patch”. There is a place on the registration form for you to note the pattern.

A note about copyrighted quilt patterns (a new emphasis from MCC because of a litigation)

Many quilt patterns are public domain (for example: 9-Patch, Double Wedding Ring, Log Cabin, etc.). Nevertheless, if you are in doubt about the pattern you are using to make a donation for the Relief Sale, the best practice is to get permission from the designer. Permission should be given in writing. Attach the written permission from the designer to your donation. The quilt committee will keep a copy of the permission for our records and make a copy to be given to the purchaser of the quilt. Always credit the designer when filling out the Relief Sale donation form. Gail will field any questions you might have (see below for contact information).

2. Submit your form

By mail:

  • Separate along the dotted line.

  • Attach the completed bottom portion to your donated item.

  • Return the completed top portion by mail to:  Gail Shetler, 506 Revere Drive, Goshen, IN 46526 by August 25, 2024.

By email:

  • Email the entire form to Gail Shetler: gail.shetler@gmail.com.

  • Print out the form, separate at the dotted line and attach the completed bottom portion to your item.

Please submit your completed registration by August 25, so your items can be included in the printed buyer’s guide. Late registrations will be listed on a supplementary page and will be sold at the end of the auction.

NEXT, make arrangements to drop off your item.

We would like to have the quilts available for picture taking between June 1 and August 25 so they can be shown on the auction website. Please contact Gail Shetler to make drop off arrangements: 574-333-7142, text or phone.

Items will also be accepted at the Relief Sale on Friday, September 27. Drop them off at Commercial Building A (Auction Hall) at the Elkhart County Fairgrounds between 8 a.m. and noon. Reminder, items dropped off later than August 25 will not have a photo on the auction website unless supplied by you before that date.

The printed buyer’s guide goes to the printer 3-4 weeks before the Sale. Late registrations will not be listed in the buyer’s guide and will be sold at the end of the auction.

If taking your own photos, we need 3 high quality photos:

1. The whole item, taken straight on from the center so that the item is a rectangle (not angled).

2. A corner of the back turned up so that both some of the top and back show

3. A close-up showing the quilting/crocheting/knitting/knotting. Send the digital photos as attachments to gail.shetler@gmail.com.

We value all the time, creativity, and work that you put into your donated items. Each one is  a special gift. The proceeds will make it possible for MCC to provide food, water, relief  items, and work toward sustainability, justice and peace around the world and in North  America. Thank you!

Items for the Sewing Box are being accepted now! Please contact Gail for pick-up or delivery.
